Why Apple’s New Announcements Matter.

Apple delivered huge news.  Now you can keep up to date with it on Unreel's Apple Channel.

1. “The future of TV is Apps.”

Watch the reveal for the new Apple TV
Tim Cook said it to the collective cringe of traditional video media companies. Apple’s new Apple TV has an array of novel features such as integrating the ever frustrating Siri to allow for voice control, and a new remote with touch and motion sense technology that appears to be the love child of a Wii and PS4 remotes. However the revolutionary news was the introduction of an App store on Apple TV.  Although Amazon and some smart T.V’s have had apps for a while now, the introduction of an Apple App store will change the way people think about apps on T.V.  Expect a rush of developers introducing innovative ways to deliver media, games, and utility on the big screen that will change the way people interact with their television sets.

2. Why not the IPencil?

In 2010 Steve Jobs said “If you see a stylus, they blew it.”

Watch the reveal for the New IPad Pro
Introducing the IPad pro with the Apple pencil, which closely resembles a stylus, but a quick re-reading of the name assures you it is not; it is in fact a first of its kind future pencil.  IPads to this point have been viewed as more of a consumer device with some neat party tricks rather than a professional device to be productive on. Semantics aside, the Apple pencil was probably necessary for Apple to gain traction among the professional market.  A far larger screen, compatibility with an attachable keyboard uncannily resembling the Microsoft surface, and split screen functionality for running multiple apps round out the huge improvements for the IPad pro that should increase its appeal as a tool to work with.

3. Lack of new features for the IPhone 6S:

Watch the reveal for IPhone 6S
The biggest new tech on the IPhone 6S is 3D touch; which allows the IPhone to sense how much force is being applied to the screen. 3D touch falls short of being as cool as it sounds, but still presents an interesting new way to interact with the IPhone.  Apple sees 3d touch as a new way to peek at and then open files, switch weapons in games, and use as a shortcut to the actions you take most.  In addition the IPhone will now have a 12-megapixel camera, and take 4k video. Both are major upgrades over the 6's camera.  The problem with Apple’s new announcement is it most likely only moves the needle for people who already own IPhones.  The 6S updates are probably enough to convince cell phone users to stick with Apple on their next upgrade.  However, in lucrative markets, such as China, where Apple has the greatest room for expansion, it is doubtful any cell phone user who has thus far resisted joining the ranks of IPhone users will make the jump just because of the new features of 6S. This may be the driving factor for the 1.9% drop in Apple stocks following the announcement.

A Request from the Illuminati: Stop Mentioning us in Video Comments

Bumble Bee, Unreel’s AI bot that crawls internet videos has found over 9,000 comments about Illuminati.  Recently we received this letter from them addressed to the public:

Dear Public,

We, as an all-powerful subversive organization controlling every facet of society, are coming to you to ask for a favor. For once, you have all the power.  In fact this is the first time you have had anything beyond the illusion of free will for quite some time.  At our weekly board meeting on one of Tom Hank’s private islands we came to a consensus. We have a demand.  Stop mentioning us in YouTube comments.  Stop it. We can promise you, it’s not us.  The world’s most powerful people do not take the time to insert secret symbols into your cat videos. We just don’t care, so stop wasting everyone’s time associating us with your inconsequential Internet videos.

Our centuries old reputation is taking a hit. In 2015 alone we have orchestrated two government coups, a series of natural disasters, deflategate, and the ending of this years The Bachelorette. But do you know where the most mentions of Illuminati were online this year? On your puerile videos, that’s where. We get it, we give off a top secret underground vibe, but Jesus Christ (who we killed BTW), it wouldn’t hurt to get a little credit every once in a while for something we actually did.

Aids? Yup, that was us.

Kennedy assassination? That’s got illuminati written all over it.

The decline of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the start of the 20th century? Do you even have to ask?

Tanking the second season of True Detective? We are diabolical, I know.

But that Pewdiepie video you just watched?  No, just no.

Also stop saying we tell Kanye West what to say. Take ownership America and accept he is your fault not the Illuminati’s. We wouldn’t touch something that controversial with our golden ten-foot scepter poles.

There is one example however that takes the ricin-laden cake with which we poison world leaders as the greatest disrespect to the Illuminati name. Believe it or not, we needed cash. Moon bases are not cheap in today’s economy, so we held a crowd-funding campaign that fell short. We weren’t even the most popular organization on Kickstarter with the name Illuminati!

We were beat out by a case that turns your IPhone into a film quality camera from a company called Lumenati.  That’s right, a case that turns a smart phone owner into Martin Scorsese on the go beat out a new location that would have taken our operation interstellar.  That one hurt guys.

Next time you are scrolling through your precious Internet videos and happen upon a moment that may have coincidental undertones of Illuminati brilliance, realize it is exactly that, a coincidence.  You want real evidence of the Illuminati? Turn on the News next month. There is going to be an earth-shattering story we have been working on for a while.

Sincerely,

The Illuminati

7 Tips To Build an Awesome YouTube Channel

Follow these strategies to boost your followers on YouTube:

Every minute, 300 hours worth of video is uploaded to YouTube.  Many of those posting are YouTube celebrity hopefuls trying to develop a fan base for their channel.  Almost all of them will fail to get even 100 followers, and there is a reason why; their content probably sucks.  But that’s not you! You have something to offer that the world will love; you just have to figure out what that is and run with it.  There is no formula to developing a following on YouTube, but there are some things you can do to help your chances:

1. Be unique:

There are well over half a billion channels on YouTube. That means if your channel is one in a million, there are 500 channels just like it.  Unique doesn’t mean you need to be completely original.  Find successful YouTubers and emulate the parts of their videos you admire. Find a gimmick. Do something that no one else has done. Point being, people won’t click on your video if you are not offering something they could get elsewhere.

2. Be consistent:
Nothing will hurt your following more than inconsistency. This includes frequency of posts and topic.  Especially early on, you need to narrow in on a theme or topic for your videos.  This will allow you to develop a dedicated following of people who are extremely interested in that specific topic.  Frequency is also important.  Picture this —you’ve gotten someone to subscribe to your channel.  Awesome!  This person sees you post video on a weekly basis, but with no consistency about the day.  That puts the burden on them to check your channel daily in hopes a new video will be up.  If they check a few days in a row, and no video, they might lose interest in you all together.  Pick a day, or days that you will post a new video, and always post those days.  This will keep you focused, and your fans engaged.

3. Talk about what you know:
YouTube has a community of over 1 billion people. That means there is a potential following for any topic, no matter how small.  Choose to make videos about something you know well, even if it does not have widespread appeal.  Find a niche’ on a topic you love, and develop a small but loyal following.  Then you can begin to branch out, doing videos with a wider appeal that will be supported by the built-in viewership of your established fans.  Above all, people want to see someone who is passionate.  So unless you are a professional actor, stick to something  you can naturally be excited to talk about.

4. Develop your social media:
This is an often-overlooked part of the equation by people starting out on YouTube.  The beauty of YouTube is the relationship between followers and content creators. Social media is just another channel on which you can nurse the personal relationship with followers necessary to grow.  It is also an excellent place to promote new videos, and reach people whom you could not with YouTube alone.

5. Post early, post often:
Just like there is no formula to make a great YouTube Channel, there is no formula to create a viral video.  The more often you post however, the higher your chances are that one of your videos will begin to trend.  Posting often also populates your Channel and makes people more likely to check it out and subscribe, since they see that a lot is going on.  No one will follow a channel that feels like a ghost town.  One warning; this does not mean post just for the sake of posting.  Uploading
videos that are crap is the quickest way to kill your channel.

6.  It takes time:
Nobody makes a channel that is successful from the first video. It takes time to fine-tune your content and figure out what will be successful. Look at some of your favorite YouTubers’ first videos; they are probably terrible compared to what they do now.  The reason why YouTube channels fail is because people give up on them.  It doesn’t take days, or months to build a successful YouTube channel, but years.  If you follow some of the advice above, and keep at it for long enough, your channel will grow and you will be glad you stuck with it.

Make Room for the Big Boys on Youtube

How can native YouTubers compete as Network TV clips take over.

Late Night Viral:
Fallon takes on Ferrell and Hart in a lip sync battle
Unreel’s AI is able to pick up on trends about which videos are going viral.  On a daily basis, if you watch our Trending channel or LOL channel for even a few minutes, you are bound to hit a late night talk show clip.  Fallon, Kimmel, Conan, and a host of others have begun creating content on their show with the intent that it will be a viral hit on YouTube.

This can be seen as a good thing, drawing even more viewers to YouTube, and allowing people who do not watch these shows to still see some great content.  However it is creating trepidation among many YouTube stars who feel threatened having to compete for your viewership with programing produced by deep-pocketed shows and celebrity appeal.

“Now I am technically competing with people with millions of dollars and production... It happens to me all the time, you know I put out a video (the network's clip is more popular that day) and I’m like damn, I would have been number one.”  - Roman Atwood

The writing is on the wall, T.V. content will continue to be uploaded to YouTube. The question is how will native YouTube content creators remain relevant beyond their fandoms when going up against the big boys?

Can YouTube Celebrities Adapt:
YouTube would not be what it is today without the countless number of content creators who made a name for themselves on the site.  These YouTube celebrities helped lift the site into the behemoth it is in part by creating passionate communities of fans and supporters.  As YouTube has grown and become a true alternative to cable TV, it has increasingly attracted network producers, who use it as an engine to win viewers they normally would not reach.

“Youtube and advertisers will come in and say see look, the tv stars the tv shows they still  have the most power they still have the most draw, and all of  you YouTubers are just some weird niche, weird audiences that aren’t really that valuable.”   -Phillip Wang

YouTubers used to compete amongst themselves for viewership.  It was a fair situation of somewhat equal resources and celebrity appeal and allowed for content that would have never seen the light of day on broadcast television to grab an astonishing amount of followers. Now that content is being put head to head with star studded clips of TV shows with inflated budgets, and undoubtedly the native content often looses out.  Go to the home page of YouTube today and late night talk shows are bound to be among the featured videos.

“When you see stuff like this come onto the platform and get home page placement…It sets a very scary precedent for all of us.”   -MatPat

MatPat and Markiplier try to beat a monkey at chess
At the end of the day, YouTube’s priority is to attract as many eyeballs to its videos each day, and hope as many as possible go viral.  If Fallon and Kimmel clips are popular and make viewers happy then that’s what YouTube will push. YouTube star Tyler Oackly proposed collaboration as a way to help both sides remain relevant on the platform, “If your gonna be playing in our playground, at least come hang out with us. Lets do stuff together.”  It is up to the native content creators, who became famous for being innovative on the site, to push the envelope further, and find a way to compete with the networks, because this is only the beginning.

Trending this week: Driving Stereotypes Ft. Dale Jr

Normally the Dude Perfect guys are out attempting to nail insane basketball shots, but this week, they nailed stereotyping drivers We had our bot crawl the comments on their video looking for its best moments.  Here are the highlight comments for the best moments in this video:

The "This is what I want #squadgoals” Moment:

When a group of adult men pile into a souped up truck, and then Spice Girls come on, things are gonna get weird. Even Dale knows the words to this one as the whole group began to sing along.  It takes a true man to accept a girly song can be a good song.

The “Dale actually races in his own car holy sh*t” Moment:

Dale Pulls up next to the Dude Perfect gang in his very own ’76 Chevy Laguna. He could have been in a Go Kart and still smoked the guys in this drag race. He’s Dale Earnhardt Jr, it’s what he does.

The “I AM THE RAGE MONSTER!” Moment:

When is a joke taken to far? The Dude Perfect guys would say never.  After a spilt milk shake lands on his car, Ty rationally responds, by taking a jackhammer to the other guys ride.  By the end of it, one car is totaled, and the other is in serious trouble if it's lactose intolerant - seems fair enough.

The “Give that man an Oscar” Moment:
Ty redeems himself after the slight road rage incident, by doing a complete belly flop face first onto a run away car.  Not sure if this is an actual stereotype, but A+ for the commitment to put his body on the line. Oscar worthy indeed.

The “Dale’s face, ain't got time for that lol” Moment:

Its one thing to have to deal with a backseat driver, its an entirely different thing when you are a world class professional race car driver.  If Dale wants to do 150 in a school zone, Dale does 150 in a school zone; just don’t ask him to take a right hand turn, NASCAR drivers strictly hang louies.
